Großglocker-Hochalpenstraße
The most famous alpine road passes through the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park to the highest mountain in Austria: Großglockner (3.798m) and its' glacier the Pasterze.
The 48km long road with 36 bends and eventually reaching an altitude of 2.504m is an amazing natural and driving experience. You pass through a unique mountain world of flowering alpine pastures, fragrant meadows, sharp rock walls and eventually ice at the foot of Großglockner at Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe.
Thanks to the ideas of designer Michaela Fink from Carinthia 4 play grounds have been erected for children with the names
"Gold mine", "Building the Road", "Fun in the snow at Hochtor" and "From egg to butterfly". While the kids play and make new discoveries the parents can take in the dreamlike view and have a well-deserved coffee!
